The basin begins on the southern Pacific Ocean side of Costa Rica and it slightly spreads towards the north before wheeling to the west. The bay’s most westward portion is at Rincon city. It divides the mainland of the country from the Osa Peninsula. Gulf of Dulce is acknowledged as one of three tropical estuaries present in the globe. The verdurous presence of dense tropical jungles is not only visually pleasing but also acts as a habitat for numerous exotic species of beasts and birds. There are several kinds of monkeys such as howler, white-face, and spider monkeys as well as anteaters, tapirs, tolomucos, tayras, ocelots, big cats, sloths, river otters, coati, mundis, and jaguars. Colorful and exquisite birds like parrots, trogones, toucans, pelicans, macaws, gulls and hummingbirds are seen chirruping and flying about. There are various coastal villages on the border of the fjord, specifically Golfito, Pavones, Zancudo, Puerto Jimenez and a national park, Piedras Blancas. The gulf is not present on the most itineraries, however the enchanting place is an ideal spot for a serene vacation and delightful sports activities. The gulf of Dulce has high humidity as compared to other areas in Costa Rica; it receives about 500 centimeters of rainfall annually. The high rainfall results in luscious growth of vegetation in the forested gulf which then becomes vibrant with wildlife.

Gulf of Dulce is surrounded by Corcovado National Park on southwestern side and by the country’s mainland on northeastern side. It serves as a spot for sporty activities like deep-sea fishing, surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving. There are amazing surf spots especially on the beaches of Zancudo and Pavones where the excellent waves persist. The unofficial capital of the channel is Golfito. Golfito is a natural wonderland where one can get away to experience a time of their life. The idyllic village has superb accommodations that range from simple, cozy lodges and cabinas to lavish resorts and hotels. A little distance away is another beautiful fishing village, Puerto Jimenez. The town has various accommodations, restaurants, markets and other facilities. Mangroves trees are budding along the brim of the gulf and the coves are thriving with splendid flora and fauna. The nature enthusiasts will appreciate the immense ecosystems. Explore the waters which are profuse with otters, crocodiles, waterfowls, and a lot more or traverse the jungles to encounter the monkeys. Hike the trails formed in the jungles, go boating and kayaking and walk the bridges. There are swamps and wetlands that have developed from the Coto Colorado River. These wetlands form an important part of the ecosystems. The Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve was established in 1979 to shelter the lowland areas. The reserve has chunks of forested land which become a hallway to the Corcovado National park and Piedras Blancas National Park. The evergreen jungles of the gulf are few of the wettest parts of the world. The reserve protects types of timber-wood species, Camibar, purpleheart wood, and Epenas. There are stunning beaches that are mostly secluded. These beaches connect the emerald forests to the sapphire ocean. Gulf of Dulce is a sublime basin where you can rejuvenate in the midst of panoramic vistas, play adrenaline pumping sports and relax under the warm sunshine.

Gulf of Dulce is a channel in Costa Rica which is situated at 8°35?N 83°16?W.
